Home » Ostomy Bag Cutting & Leak Prevention Workshop – Hong Kong Stoma Association
The following report was submitted by Ms. April Chan who is the center-in-charge of HKSA office.
On January 31, we hosted a hands-on workshop where members and their caregivers learned essential ostomy care skills. A stoma nurse kicked off the session by explaining common stoma care concerns and introducing various ostomy-care accessories. Participants then split into small groups for demonstrations on cutting techniques for stoma bags, as well as the proper sequence for using accessories such as stoma powder and adhesive remover.
Members openly shared challenges they face, including leakage and skin irritation, while nurses and stoma product suppliers, offered practical solutions to the participants, such as the use of barrier products. Social workers and volunteers were also on hand to provide peer support. The session ended with cheerful conversations about stoma care among new members. Their positive feedback reallly motivated us to continue hosting this kind of interactive workshop in the future.
In addition to the stoma bag cutting workshop, other activities—such as healthcare talks on stoma reversal surgery and illness prevention tips, shared by doctors and nurses—will provide our members with the latest medical information.
